DIY Disney Statues

I have a confession to make: I’m a Disney Nerd! Why? My house is decorated with Disney decor, most of it I created myself! Today, I’m sharing my DIY Disney statues, because guests at my home often ask about them. The statues were inspired by the golden statues found in the rotunda of The Walt Disney Company World Casting building in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. I made eight total, and they sit on top of my kitchen cabinets. Trust me, they are easy to do!

1) Buy unpainted, or “ready to paint”, Disney ceramic bisque. I found my eight 9″ figures on eBay for about $8 each. (Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Dumbo, Jiminy Cricket, Donald, and Pinocchio.) Here is an eBay link to an assortment of ready to paint Disney bisque.

2) Spray paint them your favorite color, I chose metallic gold. After they are dry, seal them with a clear sealant to protect the finish.

3) Display in your home! As I said, mine are displayed on top of my kitchen cabinets. Due to the trim on the edges of my cabinets, I also purchased 5″ ceramic bisque pedestals for the statues to sit on, which I left unfinished. I receive lots of compliments on the decor, and several people have asked me where I found them or how expensive they were!

That’s it, I told you it was simple! And, for the die hard Disney fans: The Casting Building at Disney World is one of the most beautiful buildings on property. (It is the argyle print building you can see from Interstate 4. Did you know that the building is painted as a tribute to the socks Walt liked to wear?) Take a quick look at the inside (and the history) at this link.
